Maryland woman killed in car theft in Loudoun

A woman was killed in Loudoun County on Sunday when she was struck by her own vehicle during a carjacking, the county sheriff’s office said.

The victim, Melody Waldecker, 54, of Silver Spring, Maryland, was hit as the car thief fled the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

According to the sheriff’s office, the carjacking was reported around 11:40 a.m. in the 21,000 block of Towncenter Plaza in Sterling Township.

The location is a major shopping district on Route 7, just west of the Fairfax County Parkway.

An arrest has been made, the sheriff’s office said.

Neither the name nor the charge were immediately available.

Further details of the incident could not be determined on Sunday evening.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation is still ongoing.

Earlier this month, a man was killed in Prince William County when he was struck by his own car while stealing it, Prince William police said.

The victim was hit in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the Dumfries area on July 20, police said.

They said an arrest had been made in connection with this incident.
