Flash flood warning issued for region – Your local news

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a flash flood warning for … southeast Barrow County in north-central Georgia, northeast Walton County in north-central Georgia, west-central Clarke County in northeast Georgia, and northern Oconee County in northeast Georgia until 10:45 p.m. EDT on Sunday, July 28.

At 4:41 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with heavy rainfall across the region, with between 2 and 3 inches of rain falling. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in this region. Flash flooding is currently occurring or expected shortly.

Flash flooding in small streams and rivers, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, and other poorly drained and low-lying areas. Some places where flash flooding may occur include… Watkinsville, Statham, Bogart, North High Shoals, Bethlehem, Bishop, Athens-Clarke County, Eastville, and Free.

Remember: turn around, don’t drown if you encounter flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
