Mumbai: Uncle rapes minor girl as mother went to vote; arrested | Mumbai News

The plaintiff, a housewife, lives with her family in Thane. In May, she had joined her sister in an eastern suburb of Mumbai.

“On the afternoon of May 20, when the complainant went out to cast her vote for the Lok Sabha elections, she left her daughter with her sister. The accused did not go to work that day. Since the minor girl was alone with him, he took advantage of the situation and sexually abused her,” a police source said.

The underage girl was afraid and did not tell anyone about her terrible situation.

On Saturday, the girl’s mother told her that they were going to her aunt’s house again to celebrate her birthday as they had been invited there. The girl became very scared when she heard this. She refused to go to her aunt’s house.

Finding her daughter’s behaviour unusual, she asked her why she did not want to go to her aunt’s house. The girl then told her mother everything about her ordeal, a police official said. The complainant, along with the girl and her husband, approached the Mumbai Police and filed a complaint.

Based on the report, the police reacted quickly and were able to arrest the accused on Sunday morning.

The minor girl was medically examined at Bhabha Hospital in Bandra.

The girl’s arrested relative has been charged under sections 376 (rape), 506 (threatening) of the Indian Penal Code and 4, 5(m), 6, 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police have said they will investigate whether the accused may have targeted other children in the area.
