Three dead in suspected knife attack in Shizuoka

Shizuoka, July 29 (Jiji Press) — Three members of a family died in a suspected knife attack at a house in the town of Kikugawa, Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan, on Sunday.

The three – Shoichi Shibuya, 87, his wife Ikuko, 81, and their daughter Rumiko, 52 – were found lying on the ground with apparent stab wounds and were pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

According to Shizuoka Prefectural Police, a knife was found at the crime scene.

At around 2:25 p.m. on Sunday, police received a report that a man was running wildly around a house in a residential area about 1.5 kilometers south of Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) Kikugawa Station. Officers rushed to the scene.

A man in his twenties, believed to be a relative of the victims, is on the run and police are trying to find him on suspicion of murder.
