Investigation: Man seriously injured in fuel plant

An investigation is underway after a man suffered serious injuries at a fuel plant.

Police and emergency services were called to Greenergy Biofuels Teesside, on Seal Sands Road, near Middlesbrough, at around 9am BST on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed that a “comprehensive” investigation was underway.

The Health and Safety Executive said he was aware of the incident and was investigating.

The man was taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

“We can confirm that an incident occurred at our biofuels plant in Teesside on Tuesday 7 May,” a Greenergy spokesperson said.

“An ambulance was deployed and someone was taken to hospital.”

The North East Ambulance Service said it dispatched an ambulance crew, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.

Assistance was also requested from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), who attended the scene on the road.
