Tiffany Haddish didn’t panic during the DUI incident

When Tiffany Haddish was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), she wasn’t “out of control.”

The comedian was arrested in November 2023 for falling asleep at the wheel and was subsequently charged with driving under the influence. However, she insisted that she was merely “taking a nap” behind the wheel and that she was not out of control in any other way.

“Every time I try to have fun, no matter what,” Haddish said on the “Making Space with Hoda Kotb” podcast. “You should have seen it when I got arrested. I wish they could have filmed the whole thing. They probably did.”

“But the police officers had a good time. I felt like I was taking a nap. I popped and it was 0.03 and I went home – and then I found out how famous I really was,” she recalls.

“I don’t know what people think. I don’t know what they were thinking. I’m not in their brain,” Haddish said. “From what I saw online, people were like, ‘Ah, she’s finished. That’s it. Your career is over. She is ready.'”

“And then my friends were just like, ‘Girl, your a– was sleeping, wasn’t she?'” she continued.

The Girls trip Star has since stopped drinking alcohol, but admitted her decision to get sober had already been made when the incident occurred.

“I had already decided. I hardly drank like before because every day when I woke up my body hurt after drinking. Even after one drink my body hurt!” she said.

Meanwhile, Haddish split from rapper Common in 2021 after just over a year of dating. Now that he’s started a relationship with former American Idol winner Jennifer Hudson, Haddish has sent her blessings, although she still finds it “strange” how their time together ended.

“I love Jennifer! I hope they have fun. I hope they have fun. Girls please! That was a great relationship. I had fun!” she said.

“I mean, it was weird the way it ended. We had a good time. We played; We had fun. Why did you stop having fun?’” Keanu co-star said.
