Why are flags at half-mast in Houston?

Flags will be flown at half-staff as events honor the life of the late congresswoman, who died July 19 after battling pancreatic cancer.

According to the City of Houston, Governor Greg Abbott approved Mayor John Whitmire’s request to lower flags to half-staff at Houston City Hall and all municipal buildings Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Those are also the days when events will be held to honor the life and legacy of Jackson Lee.
