Mother was attacked while breastfeeding her baby in a car in East Vancouver

According to the Vancouver Police Department, a mother and her four-month-old baby are recovering after they were allegedly attacked by a stranger on Commercial Drive Thursday afternoon.

According to VPD, the woman was breastfeeding her son in the back seat of her car parked near East 2nd Avenue when a stranger opened the door and got into the car. According to police, the woman’s husband and another family member were also in the car at the time of the incident.

“The victim and witnesses say the suspect reached and grabbed the mother and baby. “The mother, a woman in her 30s from Vancouver, was screaming, holding the baby and trying to fight the man off,” said Const. Tania Visintin said in a statement to CityNews.

According to police, bystanders and witnesses intervened and were able to detain the suspect until police arrived.

“The 26-year-old suspect is currently in custody at the Vancouver Jail. We recommend multiple criminal charges,” Visintin added.

The mother suffered minor injuries in the incident, while the baby was unharmed, police said.
