Lauder sent his condolences on behalf of the global Jewish community, emphasizing the shared pain and grief of both communities. “I write to you with a heart full of sadness and compassion, and on behalf of the World Jewish Congress, which represents Jewish communities in over 100 countries, I extend my deepest condolences after hearing of the tragic and heinous attack on the Druze community in Majdal Shams,” Lauder said. “The loss of innocent children and the injury of many in this cruel and senseless act of terror by Hezbollah is an unimaginable pain that we share with you and your community.”

Jewish-Druze unity

Lauder emphasized the historic connection between the Jewish and Druze communities, citing the Druze’s long-standing commitment to peace and coexistence. “The Druze have always been a beacon of peace, love and harmony, promoting unity between different sects and nations. This attack is not only an attack on innocent lives, but also an affront to the principles of coexistence and mutual respect that you have defended throughout history.”

The wisdom and heritage of your community is closely intertwined with our own. Our sacred texts teach us the value of every human life, and our hearts are heavy with grief as we mourn the loss of these young souls.”

The WJC president reiterated the stance of the Jewish community in condemning the violence and demanding justice. “Know that the Jewish community stands with you in solidarity, condemning this barbaric act and demanding justice and accountability.”

Lauder concluded with a message of hope for a future of peace and unity. “We hope that soon we can rejoice together as a family when peace comes to us all and we stand together against those who choose death and killing over life. May the memory of those who lost their lives in this tragedy be a source of strength and inspiration.”
