Atlanta, Texas man not charged, then indicted in 2017 murder of girlfriend | State

NEW BOSTON, Texas — An Atlanta, Texas, man was charged July 9 in the alleged 2017 murder of his girlfriend.

Russell Soule is charged with capital murder by terroristic threat, murder, aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault of his girlfriend Lindsey Torres, according to court records.

Autopsy results concluded that Torres died from drowning and other injuries, but the cause of death was inconclusive.

In March, Soule told police he killed his girlfriend in 2017 and later said he strangled her in a bathtub after an argument, and he was later taken into custody.

Before his indictment in July, Soule appeared before a grand jury in June that did not indict him, meaning the grand jury decided there was insufficient evidence to indict him on a criminal charge.

Soule was later released from Bi-State Prison on June 7.

After Soule’s indictment on July 9, Soule was taken into custody at the Bowie County Correctional Facility.

His arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
