Suspect hides in river during police chase

BELMONT, NC – A man is in police custody after allegedly leading police on a foot chase Sunday afternoon.

Police said they went to a home in Belmont on Sunday afternoon to serve arrest warrants for Travis Kirby.

According to authorities, Kirby was known to be armed and dangerous.

As officers approached, Kirby fled on foot.

To track down Kirby, officers deployed a police dog.

Kirby was then found and officials said he was “attempting to hide in the Catawba River.”

Marine units were then called in to remove him from the river and arrest him.

Kirby is currently awaiting delivery.
