MLB trade rumors suggest Atlanta Braves could be close to landing young cornerstone from Chicago White Sox

We’re still days away from the MLB trade deadline on July 30, and yet we’ve already seen several big moves, including a couple of All-Stars being shipped out of town. But the Atlanta Braves have yet to execute a single trade. The same goes for the last-place Chicago White Sox, who are expected to be one of the biggest sellers at the 2024 trade deadline.

However, the two teams could now be close to a trade deal.

The Atlanta Braves enter MLB action today trailing the New York Mets by 9.5 games for the lead in the National League East. However, they are in position to clinch the first wild card spot in the National League, but they are only a half-game ahead. So it makes sense that the Braves would want to be buyers at the trade deadline. Now, we might finally have an idea of their plans.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Chicago White Sox and Braves are engaged in trade discussions. However, he admits he’s not sure which player(s) the Braves are considering.

“The Braves and White Sox have been in communication. It’s unclear what to focus on, but Luis Roberts would likely be a good fit in ATL (if they were willing to spend – that’s a big if!). Crochet, Fedde, Pham could also be of interest to the Braves, who have been decimated by injuries but are still in contention.”

Rumors of a Luis Robert trade have persisted all season, but most insiders are skeptical he’ll be traded during what has been a difficult season. Ideally, the White Sox would trade him when his value skyrockets, not the other way around. Still, if the Braves make a strong enough offer, the White Sox might say no.

As for Crochet, he has been linked to several teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers. But he, too, is a risk, having pitched more innings this season than ever before. There has also been talk that Crochet will refuse to pitch in the playoffs unless he receives a contract extension first.

Of course, it’s also possible the Braves could consider acquiring a lesser talent like pitcher Erick Fedde or slugger Tommy Pham. We’ll see if those trade deadline dreams come true soon enough.
