‘Everybody Eats’ Selfless Mindset Helps Buffalo Bills Offense Create Chemistry

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has a wide variety of receivers and tight ends he can use on offense. This isn’t the first time Allen has faced a situation like this in his seven-year career with Buffalo.

“Everybody has a skill set that we’re going to use to the best of our ability and we’re going to make it happen,” Bills freshman wide receiver Curtis Samuel said. “You can’t focus on anybody. You just have to go out there and play ball.”

But that raises the question of how, with so many mouths to feed in the passing game, do Josh Allen and first-year, full-time offensive coordinator Joe Brady manage to keep everyone involved?

The answer lies simply in the new offensive motto that seems to be shared by the group: “Everyone eats.”

“I think those receivers and tight ends know that at any moment the ball could come my way, so I’m going to run my route full speed,” quarterback Josh Allen said.

“I mean there’s days where there’s not a lot of targets for me and days where there are. But that’s the fun part about this offense, everybody’s going to eat at some point,” tight end Dawson Knox said.

“It doesn’t matter if this guy’s plate is bigger today, we all know at some point your plate is going to be bigger. Just be prepared to eat when that happens,” wide receiver Mack Hollins added.

Joe Brady’s wealth-spreading philosophy is well-received. But if you rewind the video, you’ll see that he planted that seed the first day he was named interim offensive coordinator.

Or, think back to last season’s November home game against the New York Jets, when unlikely role players Khalil Shakir and Ty Johnson provided the spark that gave Buffalo a “rematch” win over its division rival.

Given all the “growing pains” that could still be looming on this team, it’s good to see guys seizing the opportunity to shine when their number is called.
