The driver of the vehicle, who was taking his employer to an event at a five-star hotel in Worli, was arrested by the police.

This is the second fatal speeding accident in Worli this month. On July 9, 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa died after she was dragged for nearly two kilometres by a BMW driven by Mihir Shah, son of Shinde Sena leader Rajesh Shah, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

According to sources in Worli police, Lad, who lives in his cousin’s house on Worli Hill Road, was hit from behind by a speeding BMW while returning home from work on Abdul Gaffar Khan Road on July 20 while riding his two-wheeler.

Lad, who suffered severe head injuries, was rushed to hospital by the driver and passersby. Lad slipped into a coma and was treated in the intensive care unit of Nair Hospital, where he died on Saturday, a relative of Lad said.

Festive offer

Police have arrested the suspected driver of the BMW, Kiran Indulkar, on a complaint filed by Lad’s cousin Kishore Lad, who is posted at DN Nagar police station.

Zonal DCP Krishnakant Upadhyay said, “The accused driver could not leave the accident scene and took the injured along with others to the hospital. The accused driver was initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm by negligent driving, but since the victim has now died, we are adding the section for culpable homicide.”

Four days before the accident, he celebrated his 28th birthday and was gifted a wristwatch by his friends.
