Colonel Kemp, who served in the British Army for nearly 30 years, immediately addressed one of the most egregious accusations against Israel: genocide. “The accusation of genocide against Israel is nothing short of an obscenity,” he said. “The reality is that Israel takes every possible measure to minimize the deaths of innocent civilians, probably more than any other country in history.”

Kemp spoke of the stark difference between an army committing genocide and the actions of the Israeli military. “An army committing genocide would want to maximize the number of civilians through starvation, dehydration or outright killing. The Israeli military does the opposite,” he said.

Kemp addressed the dubious statistics often cited by critics, pointing to Hamas manipulation. “They have traditionally and historically exaggerated the death toll in previous conflicts. The reason for this is clear: They want Israel to be vilified, isolated and condemned by the international community. And we have seen the impact that has.” He noted that even if we accept Hamas’ numbers, which he doubts, the ratio of civilians killed to fighters killed in Gaza is much lower than in other comparable conflicts. “In Iraq, the US and its allies killed three civilians per fighter. In Afghanistan it was five to one. In Gaza it is less than one to one,” Kemp explained.
