2 women killed, 1 in critical condition in hit-and-run on West Side; driver fled on foot, CPD says

CHICAGO — Chicago police said the driver of an SUV who was speeding and ignoring a stop sign in East Garfield Park early Sunday morning fled on foot and is not in custody. The driver of the SUV who was speeding and ignoring a stop sign in East Garfield Park early Sunday morning killed two women and left another hospitalized in critical condition.

According to police, around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning, a white Dodge SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed, disregarded a stop sign in the 200 block of North Kedzie Avenue and collided with a green Buick sedan that was passing through the intersection.


According to police, one of the sedan’s occupants, a 47-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another, a 34-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital and a third, a 32-year-old woman, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

According to police, the driver of the SUV that struck the sedan fled on foot north on Kedzie Avenue and has not yet been arrested.
