Rock Cut State Park opens facilities, search for missing man continues

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) – Authorities continue to search for a 31-year-old man missing from Rock Cut State Park.

Sergeant Audrey Hoftender of the Illinois Conservation Police said she could not specify whether the search had transitioned from a search and rescue to a search and recovery. Hoftender also said she could not provide a reason why the man might be missing.

Dive teams left the water on Sunday, but Hoftender said there was still “reason to believe” the investigation should focus on the lake.

Campers can return to their campsites as usual after their evacuation on Saturday. All facilities at Rock Cut will be open as usual.

The Illinois Conservation Police will continue their investigation, but officials cannot provide a timeline for the investigation to be completed.
