Houston Texans WR Noah Brown considered a potential trade target

The Texans have too many receivers to count ahead of their preseason opener against the Bears on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints could look to upgrade their receiver tier ahead of Week 1. And given previous interactions between Texans general manager Nick Caserio and Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, a deal between the two sides should never be ruled out.

So, could Noah Brown be heading to the Superdome before the final roster cuts? According to Bleacher Report, the two sides are expected to agree on a trade for Brown in the coming weeks.

“Noah Brown is coming off an underrated season in Houston,” writes Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report. “While he was overshadowed by Tank Dell and Nico Collins, he contributed 33 receptions for 567 yards and two touchdowns. Brown excelled with the ball in his hands and had the fourth-highest YAC rating according to ESPN Analytics’ receiver tracking stats. He was also one of the league’s most efficient receivers, averaging 10.3 yards per target and ranked fourth in yards per reception. Unfortunately for him, the Texans are going to have a hard time using him. The arrival of Stefon Diggs, combined with a healthy Dell and Collins returning on a new contract, will minimize his role. He could be a much bigger part of the Saints’ offense.”

The Saints would send Houston a 2025 sixth-round pick in exchange for the veteran receiver. Houston could use that to recoup a pick lost in the Joe Mixon trade earlier in the offseason.

New Orleans is currently counting on third-year receiver Chris Olave to carry Derek Carr’s weight as the No. 1 threat. Rashid Shaheed is expected to take Michael Thomas’ spot as New Orleans’ No. 2 option, but there’s not much behind that duo.

Brown, 28, could serve as a third option in hopes of winning an NFC South championship. Currently, he’s competing for big roles in Houston alongside John Metchie, though he may have a better chance of landing a bigger role elsewhere now that Stefon Diggs has taken over the starting five.

Last season, Brown finished with a career-high 567 receiving yards, along with 33 receptions in 10 games. He proved to be a standout option every time he was on the field, but his playing time could diminish if Metchie continues to shine in practice.

If the Texans decide not to part ways with Brown, they could part ways with Robert Woods, who has one year of control remaining on his contract. Heading into the weekend, both of those appear to be tradeable options, especially since neither is known for their success on special teams.
