19 dead in boat accident in Ethiopia By Reuters

ADDIS ABABA (Reuters) – At least 19 people were killed in Ethiopia when a boat capsized on a river in the northwest of the country, a state media company reported on Sunday.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday in the Amhara region as a group of people crossed the Tekeze River, which partially forms the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea, the state-run Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) reported.

At the time of the accident, at least 26 people were on board.

According to the EPA, seven people, including a child, were rescued, while only two bodies have been recovered so far.

It was the second major incident in Ethiopia in recent days. On Monday, more than 250 people were killed in a landslide in the south.
