National Chicken Wings Day 2024

Every year on July 29, National Chicken Wing Day is celebrated across the United States.

According to the official website Nationalchickenwingday.com, chicken wings, also known as buffalo wings, began their rise in Buffalo, New York. It was in this part of the United States that a woman named Teressa Bellissimo created them in 1964 during her stint at the Anchor Bar.

To get what is now known as modern chicken wings, she fried chicken wings and mixed them with butter and hot sauce. Normally, chicken wings were only used for soups. After serving her new recipe, her new dish quickly became popular.

Meanwhile, another restaurant named John Young’s Wings ‘n Things had been serving a similar but original recipe of breaded wings with a tomato-based sauce since 1963.

Anchor Bar’s version gained a bit more popularity by inspiring other local restaurants, leading Buffalo to celebrate Chicken Wing Day on July 29. The celebration is meant to recognize Buffalo City’s surprising consumption of thousands of pounds of wings per week.

For National Chicken Wing Day 2024, many restaurants are offering promotions and specials.

To start, Buffalo Wild Wings has started offering 6 free wings to customers who dine in and spend at least $10.
