Two men in their twenties die in plane crash when light aircraft crashes

Two men in their 20s, believed to be a pilot and a passenger, died when a two-seater light aircraft crashed in a field in Thorganby, near Selby, on Sunday morning, North Yorkshire Police said. Emergency services were dispatched to the incident involving an aircraft in North Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said in a statement: “We received a distress call at 9.50am on Sunday morning reporting an incident involving a small aircraft at Thorganby, near York. Several of our emergency services were prepared to respond to the incident.”

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to an incident involving a small aircraft at a rural location in Thorganby, Selby at around 9.50am today.

“A two-seater light aircraft with two passengers crashed in a field.

“Sadly, two men in their twenties, believed to be the pilot and passenger, were pronounced dead. Their next of kin have been informed and formal identification procedures are underway. No other injuries have been reported.

“We are currently working with the Air Accident Investigation Board to launch a full investigation into the circumstances. Some roads remain closed while emergency services continue to respond to the incident.”
