Sexual offender who abused boys while working at a North Yorkshire school has been jailed

A sex offender who abused a boy while working at a school in North Yorkshire has been sentenced to prison.

Acasia Welburn was working in a care position when she sexually abused the teenager, who was under 16, North Yorkshire Police said.

The now 26-year-old contacted the boy via social media and shared sexual messages and pictures.

This was followed by a “shocking series of abuses” when she regularly met the victim for sexual intercourse in her car and her apartment, a police spokesman said.

Welburn, of New Road, Telford, pleaded guilty to three counts of a person in a position of trust engaging in a sexual activity with a child.

She was sentenced to two and a half years in prison at York Crown Court today (Friday, July 26).

After the hearing, Detective Constable Alison Morris, of North Yorkshire Police’s recent sexual abuse team, said: “I cannot thank the victim enough for the incredible courage and determination she has shown.”

“This is another case that shows that it is possible for victims to seek and receive justice.

“We would like to encourage anyone affected by a crime to contact the police. They will support you and listen to you.”
