Dameon Pierce says he’s long admired the Houston Texans’ new running back

The Texans’ five-headed monster will get most of the attention and touches in Bobby Slowik’s offense this year. However, Houston’s offensive skill group is much more than five. In recent days, the fourth, fifth and sixth receivers on the depth chart have turned heads in training camp by making plays. Meanwhile, Dameon Pierce continues to impress by leading the running backs room while veteran Joe Mixon is out with a minor injury.

While Mixon will have some catching up to do once he rejoins his teammates at practice, it’s clear he’ll be the team’s starting running back once real games begin in September. Mixon has played the position at a high level since entering the league in 2017, rushing for over 1,000 yards four times and throwing for 49 touchdowns.

Here’s a look at Pierce talking about how he admires Mixon and wants to emulate his playing.

The Texans also recently added former Rams and Vikings running back Cam Akers to the group, making an already deep unit even better.
