A 70-year-old Mississippi man was arrested in Florida for cocaine trafficking and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrest occurred during a traffic stop by a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office (SRCSO) deputy on July 10. Johnson was driving a Mississippi-registered 2021 Chevy Malibu when he was stopped for a traffic violation.

Officers reported that Johnson had traveled from Mississippi to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was on his way back when the stop occurred. During the traffic stop, officers had reasonable suspicion that Johnson was involved in criminal activity.

When officers agreed to search the vehicle, they discovered a vacuum-sealed package containing nearly half a pound of cocaine. Johnson was subsequently arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
