Donald Trump: Attack on Israel “almost entirely the fault” of Biden and Harris

Donald Trump has blamed President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for an airstrike on Israel on Saturday.

The rocket attack occurred on a soccer field in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Israeli military officials and emergency services said 12 people were killed, including children.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) blamed Hezbollah for the attack, which came amid increasing violence on the Israeli-Lebanese border, but the group denied any involvement.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, the former president and Republican candidate for the November election blamed the events on “a weak and ineffective President and Vice President of the United States” and claimed it would not have happened if he had been president.

“Today’s attack on Israel must not be forgotten. It will go down in history as another moment created by a weak and ineffective US President and Vice President. As time goes on, this situation will only get worse for our country. It must spur the Republican Party, Democrats, Independents, Conservatives, Progressives, Libertarians and everyone else to restore STRENGTH, RESPECT AND POWER to the United States,” Trump wrote.

“This attack, just like the October 7 attack or the war between Ukraine and Russia, would never have happened if I were president! These are dangerous and terrible times for the world, and the blame lies almost entirely with the incompetent Biden-Harris administration. Something must change, and fast. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Newsweek reached White House officials via email outside of normal business hours for comment on this story.

Following the attack, Israeli Energy and Infrastructure Minister Eli Cohen warned in a social media post: “Lebanon should burn.”

“We must take drastic measures in the north that will exact a heavy price from Lebanon and Hezbollah,” he added. “What kind of cruel terrorist organization shoots children at play?”

“We send our condolences to the families of those murdered in Majdal Shams, to our Druze brothers who lost their loved ones today.”

In a statement issued with NewsweekIsraeli spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari called it “the deadliest attack on Israeli civilians since October 7,” when a Hamas-led assault on Israel killed around 1,200 people, the majority of them civilians, according to officials.

After an “assessment of the situation and the intelligence information available to us,” the Israeli military stated that “the rocket launch at Majdal Shams was carried out by the terrorist organization Hezbollah.”

“The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon categorically rejects the allegations made by some ‘Israeli’ media and various media platforms about its involvement in attacks on Majdal Shams,” a Hezbollah spokesman said in a statement issued with Newsweek.

“The Islamic Resistance has absolutely nothing to do with the incident and denies all false allegations in this context.”

Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have increased since the Gaza War broke out following the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. In response, Israel launched a major offensive on the Palestinian territory that left more than 39,000 people dead, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, according to the Associated Press.
