Piraeus prosecutor recommends trial against crew of “Blue Horizon” after fatal incident


The Piraeus public prosecutor has recommended proceedings against four members of the crew of the Blue Horizon ferry in connection with the death of 36-year-old Antonis Kargiotis in the port of Piraeus last September.

Kargiotis died on the night of September 5th in front of several eyewitnesses.

According to state broadcaster ERT, the charges include intentional homicide and abuse of power.

The captain is accused of dangerous interference with the ship’s transport resulting in death and attempted drowning by omission. Other crew members face charges ranging from complicity in intentional homicide to abuse of power.

The defendants are to be tried in the Mixed Jury Court.
