Rahul on the incident at the training center

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday condoled the deaths of three IAS aspirants due to water intrusion in the basement of a building and said common people are paying the price for unsafe construction, poor town planning and irresponsibility of institutions at all levels.

The three civil service aspirants died after the basement of the building housing a training centre in central Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar area was flooded following heavy rains, officials said.

In a Hindi post on X, Gandhi said, “The death of students preparing for entrance exams due to water flooding the basement of a building in Delhi is very unfortunate. A few days ago, a student died due to electrocution during the rains.” He expressed his deep condolences to the bereaved family.

“This collapse of infrastructure is a combined failure of the system. The common man is paying the price for unsafe construction, poor urban planning and irresponsibility of institutions at all levels by losing his life,” said the former Congress leader.

A safe and comfortable life is the right of every citizen and the responsibility of the government, Gandhi emphasized.

Delhi Police on Sunday arrested the owner and coordinator of the tuition centre where floods occurred following heavy rains, killing three students, officials said.

They said police arrested them on charges including premeditated murder.
