WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) – A man was killed in a car accident Monday evening in Wallingford, according to the driver’s family.

The driver was traveling on Route 68 and shortly after lost control, crashed into a sign and two utility poles, breaking them in half and then crashing into a nearby tree. The vehicle came to a stop just a few centimeters from a residential property.

The impact of the collision also destroyed live lines on Route 68, causing power outages in the surrounding neighborhood.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with loud noises reminiscent of an earthquake.

“A horn was just laying on top and then it sounded like an earthquake,” said Chris Nieves, an eyewitness. “It was just a rumble and a bang and I had no idea.”

Some witnesses suggested the driver may have been traveling on the wrong side of the road before losing control.

“The guy was coming down the road and driving on the wrong side of the road,” said Angelique Keenelifogg, who works in the area.

Authorities are currently investigating the possibility that a medical emergency contributed to the crash. Updates on the driver’s condition are awaited as the investigation continues.
