2 people killed in Taos County shooting; suspect in custody

A man faces two counts of murder after two people were found dead in Taos County on Thursday. A New Mexico State Police spokesperson said officers responded to two separate calls about shootings Thursday night. The first call came from the Smoke Shop on State Road 75. When officers arrived, they found Faith Flores dead, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. On the second call, officers responded to a home on Puertocito Road in Chamisal. Officers found Ruben Martinez in the driveway. He had been shot at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene. NMSP officers were later approached by 76-year-old Manuel Martinez on Puertocito Road. He confessed to shooting Ruben Martinez and was taken into custody. A gun was found in Manuel Martinez’s truck at the time of the arrest. He is being held at the Taos County Adult Detention Center.

Later, NMSP officers at the Puertocito Road location were approached by 76-year-old Manuel Martinez. He confessed to shooting Ruben Martinez and was taken into custody.

A gun was found in Manuel Martinez’s truck at the time of his arrest. He is being held at the Taos County Adult Detention Center.
