National Chicken Wing Day is Monday, July 29, and dozens of national restaurant chains are offering specials to celebrate the day. If you haven’t heard of it, the day began in 1977 with a proclamation from the mayor of Buffalo, New York (the supposed birthplace of chicken wings), Stan Makowski.

Here are some of the participating national chains offering promotions on Mondays.

Buffalo Wild Chicken Wings

B-Dubs is offering 6 free wings, boneless or traditional, with a minimum order of $10. The offer is valid on-site, online and via the Buffalo Wild Wings app with the promo code DAY OF WINGS.

Applebee’s

Buy one, get one free on Monday, with 10 boneless wings or 9 bone-in wings. Offer available online only. You can order on the Applebee’s website or app using the code WINGS DAY 24 at checkout. Offer is available for pickup or delivery.

Boos

When you dine out on National Chicken Wing Day, when you buy 10 chicken wings of any style, you will receive 10 free. The least expensive item will be free. This offer cannot be combined with other discounts.

On Mondays, when you order six boneless or bone-in wings with the Popeyes app or online, you can get a second order of six wings for just $1.

7 eleven:

7-Eleven will be offering customers BOGO deals on their boneless and bone-in wings for National Wing Day. If you order five bone-in wings, you’ll get five more wings for free. If you prefer boneless wings, if you buy eight boneless wings, you can get another order of eight wings for free. This offer is valid at participating 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes locations.

Finally, if you decide to cook chicken wings at home, make sure you handle raw chicken properly from the start. A few years ago, researchers at Drexel University launched the Don’t Wash Your Chicken program, which hoped to dispel the myth that you have to wash raw chicken before cooking it.

“The chicken has already been washed,” the program explains. “Today, manufacturers clean the chicken, so there is no dirt, feathers or other items that need to be washed. The poultry may be covered in water and proteins: you have to cook them, or you can remove them with a clean paper towel and wash your hands.”
