Vice President Harris to Attend Funeral of Sheila Jackson Lee

HOUSTON — Vice President Kamala Harris will return to the Houston area on Thursday to attend the funeral of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.

This will be the vice president’s third trip to the Lone Star State in the past month.

The funeral will be held Thursday at Fallbrook Church in Houston, beginning at 11 a.m. The congresswoman’s office said pre-registration may be required for the service.

Jackson Lee died on July 19 at the age of 74.

After Jackson Lee’s death, Harris called her “a tenacious advocate for justice and a tireless fighter for the people of Houston and the American people.”

Vice President Harris visited the Houston Emergency Operations Center on Wednesday to receive a briefing on Hurricane Beryl recovery efforts. On Thursday, she spoke at the 88th National Convention of the American Federation of Teachers.
