The murder sentence was suspended for the sake of the family

GURGAON: Joginder Singh, a murder convict and father of two, has been released from Tihar Jail after spending 10 years behind bars in a murder case. The Supreme Court suspended Joginder’s sentence due to his personal circumstances, particularly the need to care for his children and his ailing wife, who suffers from mental illness.

Joginder Singh was convicted in a 2013 murder case registered at Samay Pur Badli police station. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. During his prison sentence, Joginder was granted interim bail on several occasions and adhered to the conditions.

Since he came from a humble background, Joginder did not have the means to pursue the litigation. However, the Delhi Innocence Project (DIP) came to his rescue and filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking stay of his sentence. Vikas Dhull of DIP said they took up Joginder’s case because he is a married man whose family depends on him as the sole breadwinner and who is in severe financial difficulties.

DIP’s lawyer argued that Joginder, as the sole breadwinner of his family, had to support his wife and children. The entire family was in great financial difficulty and had difficulty making ends meet, including expenses for education, medical treatment, rent and daily household needs. In addition, Joginder had to take care of his sick wife, who suffered from mental illness and was therefore treated. Due to his wife’s mental health, his children needed their father’s support for their daily needs.

“Joginder spent 10 years in Tihar Jail in a murder case. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the lower court, his sentence was suspended by the Supreme Court and he was released. He has two small children and a wife who raised her children by sewing clothes,” Dhull said. He said the Delhi Innocence Project works tirelessly to provide legal aid to those who may not have the means to fight their cases effectively By handling cases of people from humble backgrounds, we try to ensure that justice is accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.

A dual bench of the Delhi High Court comprising Suresh Kumar Kait and Neena Bansal Krishna suspended Joginder’s sentence due to his personal circumstances, particularly the need to take care of his children and his ailing wife, who suffers from mental illness.

Joginder’s release was ordered after he posted a personal bond of Rs. 10,000 with a surety bond of the same amount to the satisfaction of the Jail Warden concerned.
