Young boy dies after police chase with suspects aged 12 to 13 in stolen car ends in crash, Houston police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A young boy has died during a police chase that ended in a crash in west Houston overnight. Police said all of the boys inside the chased car, including the child who died, were between 12 and 13 years old.

Houston police said the boys were in a car that had been reported stolen and crashed into five other vehicles during the chase.

Officers began pursuing the stolen car on Houston’s west side around 10 p.m. Thursday when police saw the suspects continue driving after crashing into another car on Richmond Avenue.

The next crash reportedly happened on Kirkwood Road, but again, police said the boys continued driving. The officers continued to follow them, trying to convince the suspects to stop the car.

Then, police said the boys swerved to avoid a METRO bus, lost control and crashed into three cars on Westheimer Road near the Beltway in Briarforest.

Four boys escaped, but one couldn’t.

“Upon returning to the vehicle, they found another suspect in the back seat of the vehicle who was unresponsive,” said Asst. » said Chef Jessica Anderson. “HFD arrived and transported this suspect, who was pronounced deceased at the hospital. All suspects are between the ages of 12 and 13.”

The police managed to catch two of the boys who ran away. They were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The other two children ran away.

Police said none of the other people involved in the crashes were injured.
