Man shot dead in downtown Tuscaloosa on Saturday night

Police are on duty in downtown Tuscaloosa on Saturday evening where a man was shot in a suspected murder.

Stephanie Taylor, a spokeswoman for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers were called to a parking lot behind the Embassy Suites hotel at University Boulevard and Greensboro Avenue in downtown.

The call came in on Saturday around 9:11 p.m., she said.

She said a man was found dead with a gunshot wound and after initial investigations, officials believe it was a murder.

Taylor said the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is taking over the investigation and will release any updates as they become available.

If it turns out to be a murder, it would be the 18th case investigated in Tuscaloosa County this year.
