Potential sexual assault victim defends herself on attacker’s bathroom floor in Bergen County mall: police

Craig Herbert followed the victim into a restroom at the mall at Hackensack Avenue and Route 4 and pushed her to the ground, where he attempted to sexually assault her on Friday, July 26, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

The woman was able to fight Herbert off before calling 9-1-1, Musella said. Herbert was captured on surveillance video and later identified and then tracked down by police, the prosecutor said.

According to Musella, Herbert was charged with attempted second-degree sexual assault, third-degree coercion, fourth-degree criminal use and simple assault.

He was booked into the Bergen County Jail awaiting his initial appearance in the Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
