TCS suspends employee for reporting safety issue

A Tata Consultancy Services employee faced the wrath of his superiors after reporting a security issue to the company. He apparently reported an incident in which his manager asked employees to share login credentials and use their personal laptops.

In a Reddit post, the employee said: “I reported a security incident at tcs where my manager forced employees to use their personal laptops and share login credentials.”

The post also reveals that the act of suspending him deviates from company policy, which apparently states that no action can be taken against a whistleblower.

He also explained that despite this arrangement, he would not receive any help from the human resources department or his supervisor because his relations with them were poor.

“As per the TCS whistleblower policy, no action can be taken against whistleblowers, but today I received a suspension notice. Some background: My HR and managers will not help me due to poor relationships,” he wrote in the post.

The post received a lot of support on the social media platform. One user said: “Make it clear that you intend to get to the top of the Matrix and that any level that refuses to comply is going under the bus. From what I understand, the top level of Tata Group is taking the guidelines very seriously.”

Another user said: “Go public, Tata takes politics very seriously. Go to the media. Go upstairs. Also, retain all data and email communications as evidence.”

Another shared a personal story: “Raise this issue with the TCS Ethics Committee. They will definitely look into it. When I was at TCS ILP, I remember there was an argument between the faculty and a member of our group. The faculty told it.” The staff member said they would fail him in the final, and they did. He reported her to the ethics committee and a team came to investigate. The employee was later dismissed.
