Schoolbags Filled in Memory of Late Buffalo Educator

Buffalo kids get a head start on their school purchases with help from the University at Buffalo.

Hundreds of school bags filled with supplies were distributed in memory of the late Johnathan D. Daniels, associate director of admissions at the university’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, who died in a fire in 2022.

His two daughters also died in the incident.

Organizers of the campaign say Daniels has always been a vocal advocate for the Buffalo community, but was inspired to do more after the Tops supermarket mass shooting in 2022.

“He knew the community was lacking resources and he wanted to bring something to the community, something positive after such a devastating tragedy,” event organizers said.
