Man shot dead in suspected driving aggression incident in Surprise

SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily) – One man is dead and another is in custody after an alleged case of road rage that escalated into a shooting in Surprise early Saturday afternoon.

At around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of ​​163rd and Grand Avenue after multiple callers to 911 reported that a man had been shot in a road rage incident.

When police arrived, they found a 33-year-old man lying on the street with numerous gunshot wounds. He was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.

The suspect fled before officers arrived, but Surprise police said they were able to identify him based on witness statements. An 18-year-old suspect was later located at his home and taken into custody.

Police have not yet released the names of the victim and suspect.

Avoid 163rd Avenue, which is currently closed in both directions from Grand to Pat Tillman Boulevard while detectives investigate. It is unclear when it will reopen.
