Man found dead in subway tunnel near Universal City

On Saturday, a man was found dead in a Metro Red Line tunnel near Universal City.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were called to the 5300 block of Lankershim Boulevard around 2:50 p.m. after learning that the man was not conscious or breathing.

The victim, identified only as a 30-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Unfortunately, the patient was no longer able to receive medical attention and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics said in a statement.

Although the cause of death remains unclear, investigators believe he was not hit by one of the trains traveling through the tunnel.
