First warning: widespread storms on Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Showers and thunderstorms are expected Sunday. Watch for ponding and localized flash flooding.

TONIGHT & TONIGHT:

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are still expected in the evening. Most areas can expect showers, but some will. It will remain very humid and temperatures will fall to over 25 degrees and then to over 21 degrees.

SUNDAY:

Showers and thunderstorms are likely on Sunday. Chance of rain 70%. Watch for very heavy downpours, poor visibility, ponding and possible localized, brief flash flooding.

Rain and thunderstorms will begin in Nashville early in the morning and gradually spread eastward. Several waves of rain/thunderstorms are possible. There will also be dry periods.

NEXT WEEK:

Monday will be one to watch closely. There could be a line of organized thunderstorms coming out of Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky, creating damaging wind potential in parts of Middle Tennessee and/or Southern Kentucky. There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms in any area during the day. It will remain very humid and hot. High: 90.

It will be significantly hotter on Tuesday. Low: 73. High: 95. Similar to Monday, several storms may move in from the north. Isolated storms will also form during the afternoon.

The first weather warnings for dangerous heat waves have been issued for Wednesday and Thursday. Maximum temperatures on these days will be over 35 degrees. The heat index will be between 38 and 43 degrees..

From Friday to Saturday of next weekend, the heat may ease somewhat as another cold front approaches from the north and the probability of rain and storms increases.
