Death of inmate in Sac County Jail under investigation – Folsom Times

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an incident in which one inmate died and another was hospitalized after being found unconscious in his cell on Friday.

According to a department news release, officers from the main jail responded to a cell in the 300 block of 8-East around 11:15 a.m. where two unresponsive male inmates were located. Both inmates were removed from the cell and officers immediately began first aid, the department said. Both inmates were also administered multiple doses of Narcan while staff continued to administer first aid until firefighters arrived.

One of the inmates was resuscitated and began breathing on his own. He was then transported to a local hospital where he was treated and eventually medically cleared for detention. He has since returned to the main prison.

The other inmate, reportedly a 40-year-old man who was sleeping in the same cell, was pronounced dead in prison. His name is currently being withheld, but authorities said he had been in custody since June 22 of this year.

The sheriff’s office said it is conducting a thorough investigation into the inmate deaths in accordance with department procedures and state law.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death and release its findings as required by law. The Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased according to its protocols.
