Man killed in gang shooting near Leimert Park subway station, LAPD says

LEIMERT PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A 36-year-old man was shot dead near the K line subway station in Leimert Park on Friday night. The suspect is still at large, authorities said.

Officers were called to 4330 S. Crenshaw Blvd. around 12:18 a.m., where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to the head, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said.

A Metro spokesman said the parking lot where the victim was found is the property of the city’s Department of Transportation.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. His identity could not be immediately determined.

A vehicle was towed from the scene of the accident on Saturday morning, but it was unclear whether it belonged to the victim.

There was no description of the suspect.

Investigators are classifying the shooting as a murder and believe it is related to gang crime, police said.

On Wednesday, a man was stabbed as he exited a Metro B station in North Hollywood, the latest in a series of violent attacks inside or near the subway system that have drawn widespread attention and prompted transit authorities to scramble to increase security.
