Florida elementary school principal arrested for drunk driving

TAMPA, Fla. – The principal of Town and County Elementary School was arrested on charges of drunken driving and eluding arrest, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 26 at around 10 p.m., an HCSO officer said a driver, later identified as Otis Kitchen II, 45, nearly sideswiped him and was driving “erratically.” Kitchen allegedly slid between lanes and nearly crossed into oncoming traffic, officers said.

Another officer then noticed Kitchen running a red light and ignoring a “no turn on red” sign. Officers attempted to pull him over, but he did not stop.

The HCSO said Kitchen eventually parked his car in his garage and was arrested when he got out of the vehicle.

Kitchen showed signs of impairment, officials said, and a breath sample showed a blood alcohol content of .142/.142. He was arrested for drunken driving and eluding.

The investigations are still ongoing.
