Two more men arrested for sexually abusing an underage girl in a prostitution ring

Selaiyur police in Tambaram town have arrested two more suspects for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl who was forced into sex work by her relatives. Police have so far arrested eight suspects, including three women, a priest, a cable technician from Selaiyur and a petty shop owner from Triplicane.

Following a complaint, the Chengalpattu Child Welfare Committee with the help of Selaiyur police recently rescued a girl aged around 14 from Paduvancherry in Chengalpattu district. She was abandoned by her parents in Semmencherry and came to the house of her mother’s relative in the village a year ago. The relative ran brothels in three places — home, Chengalpattu and KK Nagar — and was run by her sister and mother-in-law. The victim was taken to all these places.

Pallikaranai Deputy Commissioner of Police Gautham Goyal formed a special team and ordered a thorough investigation. The investigation found a fraud. Police arrested six people on Thursday, including the relative, her sister and mother-in-law, and three men, one of whom was a temple priest.

After analysing call data and other evidence recovered, police on Friday arrested two more male suspects – a cable TV technician in Selaiyur and a small shop owner in Triplicane. All of them have been booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
