Police arrest three suspects after fatal shooting in downtown Palm Springs Friday ⋆ The Palm Springs Post

Three men face murder charges following a fatal shooting in a downtown Palm Springs parking garage on Friday night.

The incident, which police say was the result of an attempted robbery, resulted in the death of one victim. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

A 20-year-old Palm Springs man and two brothers from Cathedral City, both 23, were arrested within six hours of the shooting. All three suspects are charged with murder and attempted robbery, and one of them also faces charges of assault with a firearm.

According to a Palm Springs police spokesperson, officers received a call from a local hospital around 10:26 p.m. Friday reporting a gunshot victim. The victim’s friends had taken him to the hospital after the incident.

Police quickly arrived at the 200 block of South Indian Canyon Drive, where they located and secured the crime scene. Through their initial investigation, they identified a possible suspect.

Police conducted surveillance at a similar address and observed the suspect driving away in a vehicle with two unknown males. When officers initiated a traffic stop, the suspect attempted to flee on foot.

A police dog unit was deployed and successfully arrested the suspect. The other two suspects, later identified as the brothers, were also arrested at the scene.

The Palm Springs Police Department Detective Bureau is actively seeking additional information on this case. PSPD is asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Escallada directly at 760-323-8129. Those who prefer to remain anonymous can send tips to Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.

Police did not disclose whether the incident occurred in a parking garage that has had problems in the past, but that appears to be the case. The problems with the parking garage at 275 South Indian Canyon Dr. were addressed in this recent article in the Post.

The incident is the fourth apparent homicide within city limits this year. On June 30, two people were killed near Interstate 10 in an apparent murder-suicide. On March 24, a man was fatally stabbed in the 500 block of Tiki Drive during an alleged domestic dispute. A 22-year-old man was later arrested in that incident.
