Shooting in St. Croix leaves one dead and five injured

One person was killed and five others injured in a shooting near the Christiansted beach promenade in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning and required a rapid response from local police and emergency services.

According to a police report, at around 12:27 a.m., 911 was notified by both shot spotter technology and several eyewitness reports of a shooting near the Christiansted beachfront.

Five of the six injured victims had to be taken to Juan F. Luis Hospital in private vehicles.

One victim, 35-year-old Michael Edwards, died from gunshot wounds. Edwards was later identified by his next of kin.

The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Criminal Investigation Bureau and forensic units were dispatched to search the scene and begin the investigation.
