Skyline Middle School is thrilled to welcome its new principal, Chad Burk. With 17 years of experience in the City of Harrisonburg Public Schools, Mr. Burk brings a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective to the Warren County community.

“I have felt very welcomed by everyone I have met so far,” said Burk, reflecting on his first impressions of the school and its community. “Skyline Middle School has a rich history and it is clear that there is a strong sense of tradition here. I look forward to honoring that tradition while enhancing and strengthening our school culture.”

Burke’s career in education began at Spotswood Elementary School in 2007. In 2012, he transferred to Thomas Harrison Middle School, where he spent 11 years before most recently serving as assistant principal at Harrisonburg High School. As he takes on the role of principal at Skyline Middle School, Burke is looking forward to new challenges and opportunities.

When asked about his plans for Skyline, Burk emphasized his commitment to fostering an environment of academic excellence. “We want to create a safe and conducive place to learn that meets the needs of all children,” he explained. “We will accomplish this by building strong relationships, implementing effective structures, and continually reflecting and improving.”

One major challenge Burk acknowledges is absenteeism, a nationwide problem from which Skyline is not immune. “Absenteeism is a problem everywhere, not just here,” he noted. “We will focus on creating an engaging and welcoming environment that students want to be in. By offering excellent instruction and a variety of activities and clubs that appeal to students’ interests, we hope to achieve better attendance.”

Burk is also excited about becoming an active presence in the school community. “I will be everywhere – in the hallways, in the dining halls, in the classrooms. I want students and staff to know that they are seen, heard and are important members of the school community.”

The new principal’s vision goes beyond mere academic success. He wants to ensure that students are prepared for life after school. “It is important that students graduate from middle or high school ready to perform and succeed in society. We are part of this K-12 process and fully support it.”

Burk, who currently commutes from Edinburg in Shenandoah County, already feels a strong connection to the area. He enjoys visiting popular spots like Melting Pot Pizza and is familiar with the community’s beloved baseball team, the Front Royal Cardinals. “I’m almost a local,” he joked.

As Skyline Middle School begins this new chapter under Burk’s leadership, the community looks to the future with optimism. Burk’s commitment to academic excellence, student engagement and community involvement sets a promising tone for the years to come. “We embrace challenges and turn them into opportunities,” he said confidently.
