Arrests made in investigation into drive-by shooting in Watford

Hertfordshire Police said arrests had been made following a drive-by shooting that left a man seriously injured.

The victim, a man in his twenties, was shot while riding an e-bike on the A41 in Watford on Thursday afternoon.

He was taken to hospital where his injuries were described as “life-threatening.”

During the investigation, the roads were closed in both directions.

Det Ch Insp Katie Dounias, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Crime Unit, said: “Arrests have been made in connection with the incident.”

“We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw what happened or who has dashcam footage.

“We are particularly interested in the feedback of everyone who saw the black BMW nearby at the time of the incident.”

Ch Insp Andy Wiseman added: “Following further information that has come to light, we now believe that previous reports of targeted violence in Watford are related.

“I understand that the news of this incident is causing concern to the community and you can expect additional officers to be in the area while investigations are carried out to clarify the circumstances of the incident.”

No danger to the public

Aga Dychton, Head of Local Government at Watford Borough Council, said: “We acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of our police partners who have made numerous arrests within 24 hours of the recent incidents in Watford.

“We would like to reassure citizens that this was a targeted incident and there is no major threat to public safety.”
