UNRWA employee Philippe Lazzarini: Almost 200 UNRWA members killed in Gaza

The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday that nearly 200 UNRWA staff have been killed in Gaza since the war began.

“These are not numbers, these are our colleagues and friends. They are teachers, doctors, nurses, engineers, support staff and technicians who have dedicated their lives to supporting the community,” wrote Lazzarini. “Many were killed with their families, others in the line of duty.”

“This is by far the greatest loss of life in a single conflict or natural disaster since the founding of the United Nations – a reality the world must never accept.”

He concluded his speech by calling for “full accountability for each and every one of these deaths.”
