Gas supply in Karachi will remain interrupted for 24 hours

KARACHI: Gas supply will remain suspended in half of Karachi for 24 hours from Sunday morning, ARY News reported.

According to a Sui Southern spokesman, the shutdown, which will affect both domestic and industrial consumers, is due to work on connecting to the transmission networks.

The spokesperson said the affected areas include Surjani Town, Manghopir, Qasba Town, Orangi, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, FB Area, Gulberg, Buffer Zone, Site Industrial Area, Baldia, Ittehad Town, Kemari, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Ahsanabad, Janjal Goth and the surrounding areas of Super Highway.

Gas supplies will be interrupted from 5:00 a.m. on July 28 to 5:00 a.m. on July 29. Consumers are advised to obtain fuel from other sources during the interruption.

Previously, Mari Petroleum Company had successfully discovered new gas reserves at five wells in Sindh as part of a major development.

The Company has completed testing, production and transfer of an additional 3 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD).

This development was announced after the filing of detailed reports to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

According to Mari Petroleum, the natural gas produced from the Ghazij gas field is now being supplied to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).

It is pertinent to mention here that miscreants blew up a 24-inch diameter Sui gas pipeline at Mach, resulting in disruption of gas supply in several areas, including Quetta.

The damage caused by the explosion led to a complete interruption of the gas supply.
